Who Benefits?

One of the missions of Foxfire Wilderness is to increase access to wilderness medical training. We are based in the state of Colorado - a state with endless wilderness to explore, and numerous devoted Search and Rescue members who volunteer their time to rescue people when everything goes wrong out there. They are unpaid and most have a regular 9-5 job they work in addition to their SAR duties. They show up for all of us in the worst weather, in the middle of the night, in the gnarliest terrain, and they ask for nothing in return.

Many SAR volunteers would love to increase their medical knowledge, but they lack the spare time or personal funding to participate in the training. Some teams have money available for this sort of training, but they usually cannot pay 100% and some teams cannot afford it at all.

Our SAR Benefit courses offer a subsidized course to SAR volunteers by also enrolling members of the public at the normal price for a WFR. Public enrollment directly subsidizes each SAR member.

These courses will offer the same great Wilderness Medical Associates International curriculum and certification, but will have a slightly greater focus on the SAR perspective of wilderness medicine.
