Who is it for?
The WFR course is a prerequisite for most guiding and outdoor industry jobs that operate in remote regions. It is also appropriate for recreationists who want to have the skills to care for others in remote environments. If you are operating in an environment with significantly delayed access to hospital care, this course is for you.
Past students have included:
Outdoor educators, SAR members, rural law enforcement, Forest Service and National Parks employees, firefighters, commercial guides, professional athletes, summer camp employees, college outdoor programs leaders, and adventurers like you.
What is the format?
Currently we are offering primarily 5-day Hybrid WFR courses for open enrollment. This means that you will need to complete an online learning segment up to 20hrs in length and pass the online exam before arriving for day 1 of our in-person class. The 5-days of in-person classroom time is fast-paced and very hands-on. We will trade off being patients and rescuers, and will create realistic scenarios for immersive practical training.
Online learning doesn't work for everyone, and we know that. If you or your organization is interested in a fully in-person course please reach out in our contact link.
What will I learn?
This course is packed with practical information that will aid in an emergency at home and in the wilderness.
A short list of covered topics includes: CPR, rescue breathing, choking protocol, spine protocol, stopping severe bleeding, managing head injuries, managing a range of unstable traumatic injuries, managing severe allergies including administration of epinephrine, treatment of wounds and burns, evacuation methods, emergency decision-making and leadership, detailed patient assessment procedures, and much more.
What's the price?
We are a mission-driven organization. Part of that mission is to create more access to this essential training.
The standard price for a WFR is $800.
At the moment we can offer a subsidy to active search and rescue volunteers in Colorado. That being said, if the cost of the course is your primary barrier please reach out directly.
